Systemair ventilation system for new hospital complex in Narvik, Norway

The new Narvik department of the University Hospital of North Norway was completed in 2024. Adjacent to the hospital are an ambulance station and a health care centre.

All three buildings are new and equipped with ventilation and fire safety solutions from Systemair. In the pre-project phase, a consultant specified the ventilation functions required, and the contractors selected Systemair as their ventilation partner. Systemair, in turn, recommended installing Geniox air handling units at the heart of the systems.

In the hospital, comfort ventilation was required throughout, in offices, patient rooms, and waiting areas. However, the contractor also faced special ventilation needs for operating theatres, sterile areas, and the production pharmacy. Klimaservice, the contractor for the hospital and ambulance station, reports that they greatly valued Systemair’s local presence and sales support.

Systemair Geniox – a truly flexible system

Geniox Air Handling Units (AHUs) were chosen for their high energy efficiency, low noise levels, and capability to meet stringent technical specifications. Geniox is a modular platform based on standardised sections that fit seamlessly together, making numerous configurations possible.

The Geniox AHUs provide energy recovery rates of 83% and low specific fan power (SFP) values of 1.5. One AHU achieved an exceptional SFP value of 0.75, for an operating theatre, ensuring optimal performance and energy efficiency. For certain areas within the hospital, high filtration standards were essential, requiring up to three-step filtration systems.

Systemair also supplied fans and extraction arms for special areas around the hospital.

The equipment was installed on a single technical floor of Narvik Hospital, and in the technical fan room of the ambulance station. The process went smoothly, starting with the first deliveries in July 2021 and concluding with the handover from the contractor to the building owner in September 2024.
